Jacob's Ladder 1990
Me: mid 30s, wife and child living in NYC with intrusive existential thoughts
Target audience for this movie: MeI’m biased but this is my favorite movie for the foreseeable future. Like Requiem For a Dream crossed with Vanilla Sky. It’s got some biblical elements, could be called a psychological thriller and has great depictions of NYC life in the 70s.

A Real Pain 2024
I got Little Miss Sunshine vibes as it’s a very boring movie if you were to just look at the synopsis, but the film’s ability to capture what feels like real life experience (and keep you interested all the way through) is impressive. If you’ve ever had confused feelings as a Jew about the Holocaust, this will hit home. And if you’re not Jewish but have a crazy grandmother or brother you love but just don’t understand, this will also hit.
And I always enjoy a film with a title that means something different before and after the film 👌
