  Haven't read the book but I felt like this was a great story pulled out until it became a bit of slog. felt like it was trying to juggle all these mad story elements trying to mash them together and make them work. Could have been really great but spent too much time fumbling around with half baked commentary on politics. I didn't enjoy his weird accent

  The fourth Bong Jong-Ho film I've watched now and something I've come to realize about his films is that they all have such a modern and exciting way of telling stories, Memories of Murder is no different.The range of depth within the characters of Park and Seo put other murder mysteries in which the main characters are often fraught with so much bullshit, one sided seriousness, to shame. On a deeper level; the subtext of facing and overcoming adversity from political powers, media pressure and societal differences are all balanced perfectly which makes every wrong turn and wrong decisions all the more devastating
