New Farm Cinema ~mystery movie~ was an awesome experience. The anticipation and reaction to the title appearing was something else. Could sense the number of people in attendance who had previously seen this was very small.

The film itself though…I was thrown wildly back and forth between thinking “is this the worst thing I’ve ever seen” and “we are so fucking back” throughout the 2 hour runtime. The absolute pits of Johnny Depp doing Johnny Depp things was at times…

Remarkable, heartbreaking, unlike anything I’ve seen before.

RaMell Ross harnesses the power of perspective to tell a gut wrenching tale like no one else could. The first 10-15 minutes feel hard as your brain adjusts to a different type of storytelling, but from there the story of Elwood and Turner will be seared into your mind forever.

Don’t feel like I can write much without giving too much away, considering this is barely in cinemas in the US it’s mad that I’ve had to watch on Amazon before I could see Jomo Fray’s glorious cinematography as it was intended. Will hopefully get the chance soon.

Part of the Australian premiere - Jewish International Film Festival. I believe it’s getting a full release here in February.

Hauntingly evil, a really powerful example of show don’t tell. Not that it really shows anything that isn’t a fairly mundane family drama. But that makes it all the more impactful.

“Malcolm (Turnbull) has this capacity, that if Tony Abbott could walk on water, Malcolm Turnbull would articulate - very effectively - that this was proof positive that Tony Abbott can’t swim.” - Eric Abetz

Genuinely one of the greatest lines in any documentary I’ve ever heard and it’s from a [redacted].
