There's two films here really: a psychological horror film about sexual trauma and repression and a monster-hunting Van Helsing film both of which are trying to be a homage to Dracula and the famous silent film. This ends up being a bit more than the film can chew but it works surprisingly well regardless.
This is less because the film nails either of it's parts and more because Eggers is exceptional in cultivating at an atmosphere and visual aesthetic throughout the film thats captivating enough to overcome some of its flaws
Babygirl is really a thriller. It is sustained by the constant stress and tension of Kidman's affair and the unclear danger that Samuel represents mixed in with the shock-humor of Samuel's boldness. This all works well in the heightened flight or fight logic of a thriller but comes off as thematically unsatisfying and bit dumb when it pivots back to reality in the third act.

Twin Peaks despite its initial apparent incoherence is certainly a carefully crafted work of art that is sometimes impressive. I'm less convinced though that it's actually good. First, the plot of Twin Peaks is essentially incoherent it takes the viewer hours to have any remote idea of what is going on almost everything is nonsensical and really understanding what is happening beyond that requires repeated viewing or consulting a reddit forum. This is IMO a somewhat steep cost of entry…
