The first hour of the film is electrifying, you cannot keep your eyes off the screen. Baz Luhrmann did a brilliant job at incorporating different forms of digital media to display the gaudy but powerful style which is so characteristic of Elvis and Austin Butler just effortlessly followed through.

The English Patient 1996
The film is one of the rare adaptations which comes very close to the brilliance of its source. I would heavily credit the actors, particularly Ralph Fiennes, no surprise there though. Anthony Minghella is almost able to capture and showcase Ondaatje's skilful play on memory.

Kathy Bates's acting is literally the essence of this movie. You cannot tell by her expressions what she is going to do next. Is she going to break out into a fit of anger and rage? or is she elated by the other character's actions? No way to tell but to wait and see. It is precisely this moment of suspense and anxiety that keeps the viewer going.
