As always with Wes, it’s absolutely beautifully made with some truly stunning shots. Yet, as is also often the case with him (at least for me), this is not always enough to make up for what I perceive as a dearth in empathy with his characters. I have no reason to root for Steve to succeed here.

Unironically one of the funniest films I’ve seen in a long time. I swear any of the 4 of them could have been in Monty Python. I know it’s not them doing their voices but, if you’ve seen Get Back, the dialogue is exactly how they talked to each other and a lot of it was based on Beatles in-jokes. The cameo at the end was also hilariously on the nose and clearly a pisstake just to fulfil their contractual obligations for 3 films.
Actually pretty bad, but the performances save it from what should really have been a lower score than a 3 (which I’d consider quite a decent rating). Hathaway & Chastain are strong as you’d expect. The writing is a bit all over the place though. And the ending is super, super rushed. It’s essentially a whole third act squeezed into the last 10 minutes or so. In a weird way, the film could’ve done with being 30 minutes longer in that sense. Although I’m not sure it’s engaging enough to warrant that runtime.
