  Exists in a place between horror and film noir where both creatures and anxieties hide in the shadows.
  Even if this could look a little pulpy on a surface level, there’s stuff here pretty much all the way through. The concept of spirituality contrasting science works just as well as less accessible things made in present times.

  Kiarostamis blending of fiction works very well in service of the emotional connection, in contrast to how a straight documentary would, for me at least. Very interesting to consider what particular moments that gets filmed in those extremely beautiful and carefully composed wide shots.

  The hype around Emma Stones performance is real, and it’s all about the transformation she’s doing trough the whole literal and spiritual journey.
  After a while I noticed that this is full of Americans playing Brits, which at first felt weird but after a while I got the feeling that it was a conscious choice, in the same way the production design and colorful sets are. Everything just gets a little more fun like this!
