about as subtle as a brick at times (this is probably bong joon ho at his most populist, and it loses something his other films have for that) with a few pacing issues but still ultimately endearing. Bonus points for r.patz’ silly voice and the story / art direction for emulating one of those specific niches of scifi that scratches my brain

Kaizoku Sentai: Ten Gokaiger 2021
this is the best sentai movie as far as im concerned. reference upon reference upon reference all tied up with some emotional payoffs that'll make you want to rewatch the whole series.
the only major downside was having a lot of the action in toei's parking lot but you can't win em all when you're making something during a pandemic with busy and popular actors.
you will laugh, you will cry, you will feel vindicated by them doing a thing everyone wanted gokaiger to do. thankyou, space pirates
