Green Border 2023
Everyone should have to watch this. I don’t know if there’s a film that better expresses the loss of humanity and the horror of the world for the last few years, yet still holds some shreds of hope.

Dune: Part Two 2024
Structurally and thematically messy.
Oh also, bingo card tick for films that hang a plot hinge on someone in love not bothering to communicate with their partner. Loaded magazine called, and they want their emotionally incapable lads back in the 20th century where we left them.

Chimes at Midnight 1965
Dense and serious, but surprisingly affecting in moments.
The disparity in the battle scene between the brutality (the like which is rarely scene like this until the 2000s) and the silliness of Falstaff is the keystone of this film. Out of nowhere comes thunderous carnage, and causes relationships to twist, like armour buckled by mace blows.
Chiaroscuro lighting make it the Cabinet of Dr Falstaff or even Citizen Falstaff. Orson Welles crafts a mood, and a performance to match.
It’s aged very well, and is really only held back by some groggy sound, and an unwillingness to invite the viewer in.
