  Yeah, this kinda blew my expectations out of the water. The laughs and action definitely worked for me, but what I wasn’t expecting was for this film to have such a beating heart through Quaid and Midthunder’s chemistry. Every moment of screen-time they share is so genuine that I would have been happy enough watching just a straightforward romcom from them. The fun twists on its central premise and needle drops stolen from my playlists are just the whipped cream on top of this deliciously sweet cherry pie.

  I always love when a third act hits and I mouth to myself, “Fuck, this is good.” Fassbender is amazing, the writing is so damn tight, and the nighttime scenes are lit and shot so beautifully. 2 great movies in 3 months? How does Soderbergh do it?

  My siblings and I have always joked that we all love Ray Romano because he and my dad are basically the same person, just without the wildly successful and landscape changing sitcom. In Somewhere in Queens, that Everyman charm shines through indelibly in a story of family and fatherhood that, because of my family’s strange connection, hit me incredibly hard and moved me in its quiet moments. This will absolutely become a comfort movie for me alongside Lady Bird. What can I say? Laurie Metcalf in a headstrong mother role speaks to me.
