Wim Wenders' 'Wings of Desire' has been on my radar ever since seeing a random countdown list that had it highly ranked as one of the best 'films set in a city'.
This peaked my interest because it's such a broad category. After finally watching Wings of Desire, I fully understand why it is so beloved.

Imagine a world where every film released had a setting similar to Blade Runner. A futuristic cityscape dripping with gorgeous neon lighting. However because of those films now being everywhere the sight of such a setting fails to mesmerise and instead you ask yourself 'what's the point?'
Mute is that example. It at times looks great but behind it all is an uninteresting set of characters, dragged out ending and a poorly paced plot.
The film could have been set in a village in Yorkshire and I don't think it would have mattered one single bit.
