Blueback 2022
At its best underwater, where director Robert Connelly and company are able to hone in on the aw-shucks wonder of its Free Willy-via-Freemantle premise. Keeping everyone in a snorkel also has the added benefit of preventing Tim Winton’s atrocious dialogue from exiting anyone’s mouth.
As for all the stuff on dry land, the elegiac tone of the present day sequences seeps through the more broad-strokes storytelling of the flashbacks in a way that seems purposeful but ultimately quite awkward - this is very much a film by the man who directed both Paper Planes and The Dry.

No Time to Die 2021
Blockbuster cinema may not be dead yet, but it’s certainly entered the final stages of senility - Now we can only watch on as it incessantly shits the bed, lost in the curdled memories of a time when things like character integrity and adequate bowel control could be taken for granted.
At least bed-shitting has never looked so pretty.
