US Cut
Would love to see the original cut of this, because the action scenes are all amazing and I really enjoyed the screwball comedy elements, so having another ten minutes or so would probably solve the pacing issues that held the film slightly back. Jet Li is great here, playing both the carefree dorky side and the eventual badass revolutionary side of the character seamlessly, but really Josephine Siao who plays Fong Sai Yuk’s mother steals the whole movie.…
One of the best-looking movies ever, and I think everyone brings so charm and movie star energy (I am way too much of a Twin Peaks fan to not love Beymer in this) to their roles. Totally forgot how many insane acrobatic feats Russ Tamblyn just sort of tosses off throughout.

I was so excited to see this film. Robert De Niro, Sergio Leone, extra long epic, sounds like my kind of thing. But honestly I kind of hate this movie.
The style is totally at odds with the actual text of the film, and the fact that Sergio Leone seemed to have such a fondness for the characters and world just made me uncomfortable.
