Saturday turned into a Renee Zellweger double bill and I’m not complaining. I think this is the first non-Bridget film I’ve seen her in and she’s just a fantastic actor, so endearing whatever accent she puts on.
This probably exceeded my expectations. I wasn’t expecting a rambunctious comedy but that’s very much what it is, and it’s very good at being that. Cameron Crowe’s script is magnificent and there’s a presence and style in his direction that so many modern films lack.
Cuba Gooding Jr’s Oscar was very well deserved, and this may be Tom Cruise’s best performance too.

Hard to do anything other than shrug at the mediocrity of this film as the low quality of Marvel releases since 2019 means this isn't an anomaly in that sense, though the use of D&W as a fourth wall-breaking mea culpa to Trojan Horse a desperate cash-grab into theatres is a uniquely odious move.
