Stylish, kinda noir, cinematography and a refreshing vibe of a fun but serious and suave killer. The film kinda gets lost for me around the middle, but that last third is an absolute blast. A surprising and impressive film throughout.

Had to pause in the middle of this yesterday cause it started to make me feel miserable. Which, I guess, is a great sign of how effective this anime is. It's a scary, metaphysical look at technology. Really predicted the future to a certain extent. As an existential work, it develops the internet ("the wired", as it is called in the anime) as this other reality that actually isn't separated from our own lived reality. Lain gets lost so hard…
Chases being a contemporary drama that could compete on an international level. The fast edit almost seems like it's trying to capture the intensity of Nolan. It uses archive footage to add dimension to the documentation of history, cinematography also changes material — although pretty randomly; it looks as if they wanted to shoot it on celluloid but ran out of money. It's just very loud with its presentation of a message that's… dull.
