Could've gone easily higher for me in terms of rating, but right now, it was incredible, not the best Kurosawa I've seen. Ran is a Shakespearean succession drama about war, violence, greed, hate. Incredibly ambitious with its classical story structure, but also momentarily lukewarm — this was the only thing holding this watching experience back for me — at the cause of it not being the tightest script, I think.

Chases being a contemporary drama that could compete on an international level. The fast edit almost seems like it's trying to capture the intensity of Nolan. It uses archive footage to add dimension to the documentation of history, cinematography also changes material — although pretty randomly; it looks as if they wanted to shoot it on celluloid but ran out of money. It's just very loud with its presentation of a message that's… dull.
