    I'm Thinking of Ending Things

    ★★★

This is definitely a very confusing movie, and rewards viewers who are attentive and focus on details. I read more about this movie afterwards, and its true meaning is absolutely incredible, although I havent taken that into account for this review; these are my thoughts after having seen it without knowing the underlying story.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things is utterly unique in its presentation, and always keeps you switched on despite stretches of seemingly sparse runtime. Much of the…

    Mickey 17

    ★★★½

Mickey 17 is a very good film with much potential. Bong Joon Ho's first film since 2019's Parasite is ambitious in its scope, scale and rich themes. The value of life in exploitation, and the persistence of consciousness past death, are placed squarely in frame as the life of Robert Pattinson's Mickey Barnes is used again and again as a means to an end. Gladiator II

    ★★★★

Gladiator II is boastful in its epicness, and is visually stunning from its opening moments onward. Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn each give incredible performances, befitting of the series, that display power and emotion. Here we again have the interplay between the Senate and the Colosseum, compelling in its political intrigue but lacking the clever simplicity of the original's. This movie is very reminiscent of the first; its narrative structure, characters, story beats and drama, and…

    The Substance

    ★★★½

Makeup and hairstyling went absolutely bonkers with this one. A very effective body horror in service of a story with deeper underlying themes that I felt were well explored. Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley give incredible performances, and are both ready to capture the fear and horror of their characters in both a physical and psychological state of grotesque undress. However, The Substance isn't without its shortcomings. This movie is rather long and seems to lose itself as it goes,…
