    I'm Still Here

    ★★★½

"I'm Still Here" is a beautifully shot glimpse into one family's struggle under dictatorship. The cinematography is gorgeous, the direction is engaging, the production design is fantastic, and the costumes are great - it's only weakness is its plot.

I went into "I'm Still Here" without knowing what it was about. The first act dragged and meandered until we finally get to the crux of the story: the dad has been delivering messages to the anti-government terrorists and is arrested.…

    Anora

    ★★½

"Anora" is a simplistic, bloated, unengaging film with flat characters and a sloppy 2nd act. While finely crafted, there isn't enough here for an engaging story, especially one over 90 minutes.

The cinematography is fine - nothing blew me away, but everything was well composed. The acting overall was fine, but I found Mikey Madison's heavy New York accent was constantly distracting, along with every character constantly swearing. Mark Eydelshteyn had the best performance because I hated every second his…

Nuanced, original, cohesive, engaging, a film - Baz Lerhmann's "Elvis" is none of these things. Instead, "Elvis" is a 2 hour 40 minute montage/music video/PowerPoint presentation.

Rarely does a movie repulse me from the first frame. Starting with the gaudy cgi title cards, straight into a cacophony of CGI imagery, text, inserts, and voiceover, Elvis doesn't let you stop to take a breath until you are 40 minutes in and questioning why they gloss over all the interesting moments of…

    Joker: Folie à Deux

"Joker: Folie á Deux" is a decently crafted movie that is so boring and pointless that it fails the basic qualification of being entertainment: it wasn't entertaining.

I had absolutely no interest in a sequel to the first "Joker." The first Joker was a thematic mess and a derivative, contrived pastiche of better films (mostly Scorcese), and when the trailer came out for the sequel, I seemed to be the only one who had absolutely no interest. Then the reviews…
