Topsy-Turvy 1999
I don't know how Mike Leigh brings his down-to-earth sensibility and works it with these characters and this subject matter but he does and it works so well.
Despite being a topic of intense interest for me I honestly have an aversion to music hall performances in full so this film gives me just enough to immerse myself without causing me the same physical pain as watching the whole of The Pirates of Penzance.
