Competent - and surprisingly concise - but missing the sophistication of the book. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn't watched it the day I finished the novel. I particularly feel as though Oldman's Smiley doesn't fully match the character in the book, but we can't have everything!
You know, this really didn't land for me at all. Surprisingly boring, some pretty shoddy acting (especially from Steve lol), and a plot which had nothing to say. I suspect I'll have forgotten it in a few weeks, I genuinely couldn't connect with it at all.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Poor Bond, if only he had the foresight to have watched enough other films to know he'd been betrayed early on...
A very solid entry and a great introduction for Craig! Very gruff, very pouty, and I have several questions about how 'love' develops over the course of checks notes a week...
Also an extremely strong performance by Eva Green! Nice to see Bond get so easily tricked, but this is still a Bond film so...it can't be a simple trickery, she of course fell for him really.
Tight, beautifully paced, clear and concise. The film making has flair, the score and sound mixing was incredible, the acting was strong. Only a few misses in the script, but within minutes I was on the edge of my seat and didn't leave it.
Its thesis is interesting - though I haven't read the book, whose focus is the thesis - and it doesn't try and force it down your throat more than you'd expect in a film with this…
