  insanely stupid. not the first movie to ask "what if there was a group of secret elite killers sworn to uphold the status quo" OR "what if there was just one guy in this world who still cares about damn justice" but the first one to add, over and over, "this one is like a bee"

  a couple of thoughts before i really give this time to sink in:

  1. god help me, this may actually get me to revisit Holy Motors, a movie i hated a decade ago
  2. there's a sort of sondheimy quality—melodies and rhythms made to fit the lyrics, not the other way around—to some of the songs. others, though, are totally anxiety-inducing - not through dissonance or atonality but as if written by a savant, melodically quantized but with no discernable key center, rhythmic but with no conventional meter. i hate hearing these songs but they nonetheless 'work', infusing every scene they're part of with a restlessness
