A Woman Under the Influence 1974
having not revisited this one since college, I was absolutely blown away by the caliber of filmmaking Cassavettes committed to film. Gena Rowlands, having died just recently, gave the performance of her life for this one. fantastic photography, great pacing, and harrowingly bewildering performances from all.

There Will Be Blood 2007
Paul Thomas Anderson's finest hour(s). Objectively his best film, and one of the best films ever made. Fucking breathtaking in its scope and its imagery. Some of the best photography I've ever seen in a film. Day-Lewis, of course, kills it the whole film through with a performance that intrigues and entices as well as it terrifies. I can't get enough of the cinematography. Elswit stepped up his game this time around and captured some of the most extravagant frames I've ever had the pleasure of laying eyes on. Methodically crafted and meticulously directed. A masterpiece, indeed.

The Irishman 2019
Though the journey may be long, it is indeed fruitful. Scorsese's latest epic gangster caper has tones of existentialism that had me loathing the imminence of the end. The last curtain draw.
A film about legacy that packs a wholesale punch on all fronts. Lavishly designed, very finely photographed, and chock-full of excellent performances from everybody; I am of the school of thought that this may be Scorsese's very best.
