I'm not sure I've ever seen a narrative movie that wished it was a documentary more than "The Alto Knights."
The editing and voiceover drove me crazy, which is a shame because those weird choices distracted from some legitimately compelling drama and two fascinating Robert De Niro performances.
At least "The Alto Knights" made me realized I'd love to watch an actual documentary on Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. That's not nothing!

This is A LOT of movie. And a lot of that A LOT worked! Brady Corbet sure knows how to sketch out and execute a vision...almost like an architect. Every performance is great, though I have no context for how accurate Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones' accent work is or isn't.
