This rocked so hard, I don’t think I got it until the end, but there is so much that is done well. The story is kinda nonsense but kinda didn’t matter by the end. It definitely isn’t perfect, but I’m biased and this just appealed to so many things I vibe with. Also one of the hardest movies scenes ever near the end.

2 Michael B Jordans, Hailey Steinfeld, and dope as vampire gangster blues, so fricken sick.

I am riding the line between a 7 and an 8 because this movie did a lot well and a lot really strangely. It feels like James Gunn made an effort to make sure this movie drew on the innate over-the-top action of comic books to create a wild plot that surprisingly works, but also took some of the one-note character traits tied to the characters that led some to feel flat or underdeveloped.

Surprisingly all of the side characters felt great and relevant to the plot in clever ways, even if I still debate whether I’m convinced of this portrayal of Superman.

I think this film was very clever and had a lot of cool concepts. Horror works best as an analogy for real world struggles and I think this movie portrayed that well. The characters felt realistic and I was tense the whole movie, which means it did its job perfectly.

This is the first Studio Ghibli movie I’ve watched in full and it was gorgeous, kept my attention, and immersed me in another world. Maybe I need to watch it again, but I don’t know if I “got” the movie, it ended and I felt like I had been given several great concepts and hints at themes, but none of them explored to the extend to make them feel complete. Definitely makes me want to watch others to see how they compare
