    This was actually pretty decent. There's focus on Moana and the central myth that's very welcome and Johnson's Maui didn't annoyingly pester himself through, a nice complement, and shld I say the best The Rock performance since I dunno Pain & Gain.

    Builds an earnest, even if sentimental, case for restorative, rehabilitative justice. Not just within the prison/correctional section (Dom), but starting from the pedagogical (Xavier), to really reform a rotten system. Not a fan of its saccharine score and some tourist-y montage-y edits at the start (too much drone shots as well). Could use a little restraint but Dennis and Ruru bring their A game to characters that are nicely written, each mirroring the hopefulness needed to effect change.

    A friend talked to me about his interpretation of the film after I told him I finally got to see it and his theory, I'm starting to realize, is much more interesting had the film gone that way, given the fiction-reality dichotomy, its crossing into surreal territory.
