  Looking at this film, Sweet Smell of Success and Birdman of Alcatraz, it's easy to put forward the argument for Lancaster being one of the greatest actors off all time. Now officially a Richard Brooks fan boy as well.

  Love in the Afternoon 1972

  A wonderful marriage of mundane everyday life and philosophy. Rohmer never judges his characters, he leaves everything open for the audience to make up their own minds. It's very poetic but Rohmer finds the poetry in the normal rather than simply adding it. It's completely engaging and thought provoking. There's a wonderful sequence where Bernard Verley imagines himself living in a world void of social rules which highlights Rohmer's directorial talents.
