What a challenging movie to make and make well. Multiverses are so hot right now, but this is the first movie that decided to use that concept to deconstruct a character and rebuild them using absurdist philosophy.
The entire idea is fully realized, from the concept to the performances to the tone to the narrative format. The film expertly weaves high minded concepts with utter nonsense in a way that keeps the experience surprising, exhausting, hilarious, and emotionally resonant.

James Cameron knows how to make an action scene and he certainly pushes the limits of CGI. Good for him.
This movie was bloated considering how straightforward it is. There’s probably 40-70min that could be cut without any noticeable impact.
James seems to think that we remember or care about the characters, so far as having little moments like having the family use it’s, “Sulleys stick together!” motto as if that’s a part of lore we care about.

The best or second best of the trilogy, easily solidifying it as the best franchise in the MCU.
There are still plenty of MCU beats- no real danger for our heroes, for example, but overall there’s a lot more craft to this movie than the more soulless, paint by numbers MCU entries.
I appreciate how James Gunn pushed the limits of the PG13 requirement to add a bit more grit and sadistic glee. Also, there was a lot of imagination…
Watch this with my wife, because we want to see Maverick, but she’s never seen the original. It had been about 20 years since I’ve watch this…maybe more.
You know, while a ton of this stuff is pretty dated, the movie as a whole holds up.
