  A Real Pain 2024

  Jesse Eisenberg using The Holocaust as a backdrop to explore how much he hates a certain type of dude is so funny, idc if that’s a reductive assessment. Not convinced that this deserves any screenplay acclaim. Some of the one-liners are good (“topiaries his wild-ass Jew fro into submission”) but the broad strokes are, I guess, just trite enough for the neolibs at the Academy.

  Watched this like three weeks ago at this point. Pretty fun light fare that doesn’t try to be anything more tham what it is but does have a few tricks up its sleeve beyond what the trailers make you expect. Definitely suggest avoiding casting spoilers to get thrown off by some great cameos.

  The kind of movie that’s so jaw-droppingly bad that watching it with someone else as a joke (which is fortunately what I did) can be a really fun experience. For your own sanity DO NOT watch this alone though. People are so interesting. Who the fuck is Özgür Dogruöz and how does he have the gall to release this publically with his name on it? Not even The Room hits these depths. This is WAY beyond “so bad it’s good.” Açela is so bad it’s awe-inspiring. Not just anybody can create something that makes you feel like you’re losing your mind.
