  I always appreciate a film that swings for the fences, even if it doesn’t really score a home run. Has a great premise that becomes a little too simplistic and falls into narrative fallacy in the latter half.

  Watching this during the inauguration of Trump was an incredibly surreal and uncomfortable experience. 

  It’s hard to lay out how I feel about this movie because there are so many inherent contradictions in it. It feels both grand and contained. Both deeply emotional and also cold. Perhaps it’s also because the two halves also have such different tones (not a bad thing).

  So melodramatic and so much fun! I did not go into this expecting to laugh at stuffy, old, self-serious men looking at cell phones or getting into Mean Girls levels of dramatics in cafeterias. Every time conservative Tedesco pulled out his lil vape I lost it.

  Is this high art of film? Probably not. But it doesn’t need to be. Just hand me the popcorn and let me get back to my papal gossip.
