Felt like someone transferred the presentation and vibe of a musical biopic directly onto a story about the kidnapping, torture and murder of a political prisoner. Could have been about the last days of The Beatles, would have felt similar.

The love story in this movie gripped me in the chest with both hands. Losing yourself, a slow descent into mutual psychosis. Two people orbititing like a binary star, spinning faster, and faster, the mutual ship drifting, obsessive, in their own world. Happy. Happier than they'd ever been. And drifting away from the world.
I was deeply moved by their fantasy, the tragedy. It stirred something deep in me.

Watching this film was a lot like I imagine it feels like to be groomed. David Lynch was practiced, I was not, and he took me on a journey that I'm not at all sure I consented to. I know something happened to me, but I am confused about what. Was it something bad? Why do I feel rage? My emotions have not settled, they have not resolved. Much processing and introspection will be needed before I can understand even my own reaction, let alone the film.
