Still the most nerve wracking shit I’ve ever seen and Adam Sandler punches so far above his weight it’s criminal he didn’t get nominated

When is David Spade getting his A24

Finally watched my first Albert Brooks film, and it was what I hoped it would be.

This is basically Vacation if it was made with a proto-Curb Your Enthusiasm sensibility, and covered in that cynical, 70s alt-comic style of Brooks, used here to blister yuppies and 80s greed culture.

This movie has style for days and plot for minutes. An absolutely stunning visual treat slightly let down by the glacial pace and the perfunctory third story (Hoichi the Earless) that could’ve been 30 minutes shorter.

Watching the 1,000th movie of boring millennials having trauma that is somehow manifested by ghouls.

Honestly, this has more in common with an early 2000s Thirteen Ghosts/feardotcom type movie (but without the fun) than Hellraiser, with its supernatural spookshow effects and creature design.

Everyone should be ashamed for ruining Barker’s work like this and turning it into yet another dull A24-esque…
