Solid doc on a true cornerstone of video game culture. Most of my usual documentary complaints apply here (fluff pieces that feel like they know the story they want to tell rather than showing the story and letting you make inferences on the subject) but unfair to single it out for those. Good variety of talking heads including people who worked on the IP, fans, and authorities in the gaming space today.
I think something that has appealed to me…
It's hard to not compare this to the other scifi movies I've seen recently and this just lacks some special sauce those both have. Vin has some funny moments and seeing a young Claudia Black had my head turned. The monsters weren't scary and the CGI was terrible. This never got better than a daytime cable movie channel.

Another stunning, gorgeous movie from Denis with an intriguing fantasy/political plot that kept the long run time breezy. I do hate the story being broken up but it's also hard to be upset at being given genuine blockbusters every few years.
About halfway through I thought "damn this is really like an old western". About a hour later after the movie ended and I'm reading about it on Wikipedia I learn that Kurosawa sued Leone over A Fistful of Dollars being a copy of this movie (and won). If one of the most influential "western" genre movie sounds interesting to you, watch this Japanese movie about a ronin.
