The Thing 1982
I get more out of this film every time I watch it. The story setup is fantastic with the helicopter chasing the dog. The idea of not being able to trust the person next to you is done really well because of the performances and Carpenter’s direction. Some of the most impressive practical effects and makeup in any film ever put to screen. The monster designs are so much fun. This also has come of the best jump scares in…

The Fly 1986
One if the greatest body horror films ever made. Insane practical effects and makeup, great performances from Goldblum and Davis and a killer score. The arm wrestling scene and the birth dream are both such memorable scares. Goldblum’s ticks as he evolves into Brundlefly are the best. Every time I watch this I forget they used an actual baboon on set which is an insane thing to do and could have gone horribly wrong.
A very fun and nasty film.…

Alien 1979
Not just a perfect horror film but a perfect film. Possibly my favorite storytelling in any horror film with 3 very important and distinct acts. The way the film builds to the face off at the end is such a fun ride. Amazing practical effects throughout this and I love the set designs.

Friday the 13th Part 2 1981
Basically the same as the first without the reveal at the end. Similar kills and nothing very memorable. Boring cast of characters which is the biggest problem. We don’t know enough about Jason yet to be rooting for him and you certainly aren’t rooting for the counselors because you just want to see them killed in fun ways. For such an iconic franchise I’m really not sure if there’s more than one good entry.
