I like slower, psychological movies but this felt like getting dropped directly into real people's lives and witnessing intimate, slightly annoying conversations. I liked the reticent acting of Kwon Hae-hyo and the impassioned, slightly clingy character of Cho Yun-hee, but I found Kim Min-hee's character to be a little blank.
Everyone at Locarno raved about this film. I liked it, but it was a little too slow for me, and the muffled mood felt a little predictable. That said, I appreciated how this film was as much about a teenage girl's coming of age as it was about the unfolding of war... certainly a different lens.
Given what I've heard about Venezuela, I wasn't sure what to expect from this film... could it really evoke the feeling of magic and beauty as captured in the trailer?
