  We are but months away from ChatGPT being able to make a movie this poorly written and directed.  Consider me Sorkin’s biggest hater.  No character seems real and everyone speaks in the same manner: forced and annoying.  😏 as a style personified.

  Like if Nicholas Sparks novelized Heat-but-in-Boston and that was adapted back into a movie.  But also a great reminder of how good Chris Cooper is.

  about as good as the chinese cover of “yellow” by coldplay. written and acted as well as a disney channel original movie. as helpful for asian representation in american society as “wendy wu: homecoming warrior.”

  if a film is supposed to be important, then the standards should be raised rather than lowered. tired of people saying  “but at least it’s important.” it’s a shame that the cinematic equivalent of a gaudy and boring chinese ad for some overpriced jewelry seen…

  There is a sense that Wang is for some reason uneasy about dwelling on the conflicts and ambiguities in which these characters find themselves. At almost every point at which something more profound might reveal itself, the moment of vulnerability and reflection is undercut by some unnecessary, cheap laugh. This is so routinely inserted that, in place of a rare opportunity to earnestly think through the painful entanglements of transnational family life, the film surrenders to the boring and lazy…
