Director Kihachi Okamoto had just lensed Sword of Doom; one of the greatest, most dynamic samurai sagas ever seen. So what does the man do for an encore? He takes his star, the great Tatsuya Nakadai and presents this insanely entertaining sendup of the action and spy genres. Flat out one of my favorite films, it's just a wondrous and hilarious experience to sit through. It also remains criminally underseen here in the West where it's received no official physical media release of any kind.

So Fine 1981
Raunchy screwball comedy that always feels as if it's trying too hard. Ryan O'Neal is badly miscast as the shy, awkward lead but the great supporting cast keeps it watchable... somewhat. One of those now forgotten films that played constantly on cable in the early 80s.

The middle section wasn't long enough and the absence of Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao in the interview segments was felt. But wow, this is an amazing snapshot of the golden age of HK action filmmaking, the likes of which will never be repeated. I literally shed a tear as I watched many of my heroes relive their death defying experiences which thrilled me beyond words back in the day and confirming just how close they were to making self inflicted snuff films. So happy this documentary exists, it's absolutely essential for fans.

Satanic Crystals 1989
Liang Chia-Jen (alias Beardy) stars in this rare and completely bonkers slice of low budget Hong Kong action/exploitation goodness. Featuring a barrage of fantastic fight scenes, back breaking stunts, a fair amount of exotica and a bit of naughtiness to boot in the form of Beardy getting his freaky on with a semi naked starlet, this is as fine a piece of low brow fun as you're going to find.
