Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance 2002
First film of 2025 did not disappoint.
The narrative does an incredible job at highlighting how revenge is a fruitless venture. It was raw, brutal, unforgiving, and tragic in its delivery. Both of our main opposing characters are given this morally justifiable motivation which was used as a device for the films inevitable climax.…

Kizumonogatari Part 3: Reiketsu 2017
this trilogy collectively is without a doubt, a breathtaking work of art in my book.
the stylistic design and score alone are reason enough for me to enthusiastically revisit this for years to come. additionally, juxtaposed with bakemonogatari, i felt like this was the perfect sequence i needed as a fan continuing on and piecing together some of the relationships/dynamics within the series. the animation style is also one of the most unique products ive had the pleasure of viewing.…

I really appreciate all of the subtleties…

Wild Strawberries 1957
Wouldn’t be a Bergman banger without me having to reevaluate my beliefs and self purpose. This film does a great job of taking many facets of the human experience (childhood, isolation, regret, dreams, etc.) and manifesting them through a man nearing the end of his life. The moments of self reflection are delivered in such a unique and gentle way, which really heightens the pensive gloom of its themes. I almost feel like I have a greater appreciation watching this…
