The crazy thematic shift from the weird demon possession reveal that I thought was the ending, to the actual ending that reveals the truth of Landor's daughter (who I had forgotten about by that point in the story) is such a jarring moment. It's really hard to do the whole surprise climax after the first climax thing and it just didn't work here. God, this story is a mess.

My Neighbor Totoro 1988
My Neighbor Totoro was all that I could ask for out of my first studio Ghibli film. Beautiful and imaginative, this is such a simple yet wonderful story about childhood. Totoro is certainly a new favorite character of mine. The animation was gorgeous. I cannot wait to check out more studio Ghibli films.
