passing though a series of recursive and mirror images, taking time to appreciate the liminal space between each; the split second pause before inhale or exhale.
in analog the interstitial seems very smoothed, a calm nightmare, almost tidal. i feel that if one were to make this film today, these same spaces would be sharp and orthogonal: how it feels in that split-second, jerk-terror when you wake up from falling in a dream.

I appreciated the criticisms I read before going into this about the lack of emphasis on Osage lives. I probably would have gotten more out of a movie where Molly’s inner life and thoughts were foregrounded.
That being said, I think the turn-to-camera moment at the end of the film effectively answers why Scorsese chose to frame the narrative the way he did. This is a movie by a white director primarily for white audiences. We are all Earnest. Watching…
