The Goonies 1985
It's possible to like this movie if you watch it when you're ten or eleven and you maintain affection for that experience and what it meant to you then. I don't think it's possible to like this movie if you watch it for the first time as an adult. It's popularity, I think, is just a memory of how you felt as a child. It's continued popularity seems like a weird communal agreement between fans to revert themselves back to that. Pretending to be children again as an adult is the object, Goonies is the stage. It's quality lives entirely in that pretend space.
