  Refreshing in that it swung hard. In a healthy movie year, this would have gotten a panicked January release, and been a pleasant, insane surprise after a fall of predictably good award season films. It was nice to close my eyes and imagine that was happening.

  Could have been much better. I blame Netflix for poisoning the well.

  A perfect choice for Baumbach to flex his blockbuster muscles, but it would have served him a lot better to stick closer to home in the subtle realism of his movies to date. It felt like he was a little anxious about the humor of the source material coming through, so he played up the costuming and added some extra winking throughout.
