I know it gets over-shadowed by other events, but Pippet the dog barely gets a mention in the list of the shark’s victims.  Sad.

The scene that killed me this time is when Dreyfus asks Shaw if he’s ever had one do this before, and Shaw says, “no”.  From then on, Shaw plays the fear beautifully, it’s really amazing.  Watch him as he revs the boat engine, which makes no sense for an experienced seaman whose boat is also his…

Weird, and not entirely successful, but it did get part of one of its songs stuck in my head. All in all, it made me want to re-watch Six String Samuri, a better version of Buddy Holly saving a post-apocalyptic world through rock (and kung fu), and re-listen to Brandi Carlisle, whose songs are infinitely superior to anything here, and whose look is either being referenced or outright stolen by Sadie Sink.

I was not prepared for the turn in the last act when Jackie Chan, falsely accused of murder, takes his own police captain hostage and has an explosive speech about labor vs management politics within the police department. What? But then we’re back to Jackie doing insane stunts in a shopping mall.

I spent the second act struggling to enjoy the madcap race around New York and New Jersey because of my growing concern that Garnick had not just a concussion, but perhaps was developing a subdural hematoma. He gets more and more disoriented as the day goes on, and you could argue that he’s just tired, but he also gets progressively more ataxic, so there’s some worrisome focality to his exam. The last you see him he’s passed out in the county clerk’s office in Vegas; I hope he makes it.

We’ve finally found our calling…as entry level factory workers.

It’s just really a joy to watch a pig and a duck squish, stretch, and contort themselves through every frame of this movie. It’s also weirdly inspiring that it has almost no interest in IP strip mining (looking at you, Space Jam 2), but rather in taking two characters and plunking them down in an original story. Well, okay, mostly original, since there’s definitely a point where it becomes Armageddon, with…
