Where the Hand of God creates such a strong sense of nostalgia, the consequences of love imprisons us in the present and the great beauty (I can’t remember because I watched it too long ago), Youth somehow manages to bring a perfect sense of the past present and future in one go. Sorrentino’s scenes are always perfectly crafted, not a second too long or short, keeping you glued to the screen. Although some of this flew over my head, the emotions were strongly felt throughout. It is a strangely haunting yet comforting throughout and this is emphasised by the simply beautiful cinematography.

I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this as much as I did, but it’s surprisingly funny and easy to watch. Simply quite a fun film, beautifully shot and well acted. Also quite cool how it’s based off the Odyssey (but I need to read the Odyssey to see how it lines up).
KKK scene was a highlight.

Risky Business 1983
This film is very interesting. On top of being a Laurent classic, I find it can be interpreted in almost any way you want it to.
I would class it as the teenage, lighter hearted Eyes Wide Shut - a film about desire and doubt with sex at the centre. From the opening scene there is no defined line between Joel’s dream world and his reality and I can’t help but think that we are actually flowing between the two…
