    This one’s pretty niche so I really can’t blame you if you don’t like it as much as I did. But I loved it. 

    It’s my favorite type of nonfiction—it drops us into a subculture that exists, invisibly, right in front of our eyes. At the start, you think there can’t possibly be enough to say about obituary writers to fill a feature-length doc. At the end, through tears, you just wish there could be even more.

    Wow. This is documentary as art. Nonfiction doesn’t need to be boring, artless, cut & dry, as this proves. I have to disagree with the reviews that call this a simple and calming doc—at times, this felt like a testimonial to the horrors of Jim Crow.
