This is exactly life. You start with excitement and plans and then something important goes missing and you spend the rest of your life looking for it but you really aren’t you’re just looking for some kind of connection.

There is something so very true to me about living in the moment, and appreciating each day for exactly what it is. Life is only made of present moments, nothing else. Living those moments joyfully is about the most beautiful thing you can do.

Disney is forgetting how to tell good stories. This isn’t much more than a reverse engineering of the original’s narrative with the same emotional beats repeated over and over (how many lion parents will die?) and all the resolutions known in advance. Not a single funny moment in the movie (except how those lion cubs sing BRAH-THAAAHHHH) and the whole thing has not much more real weight than the glass-eyed stuffed lions that inhabit it.

A narrative and special effects disaster. The first 20 minutes sets up a promising historical sci-fi/fantasy premise, pitting Nazis against an ancient evil with only a historian to assist (hm, sounds familiar…). But once Ian McKellan shows up (did that guy ever not have white hair?) the rails come off fast. Not good, and not quite bad enough to be good either. Upside is this film gave us Miami Vice when Michael Mann moved over to TV production after its failure.

If you’re looking for another thought-provoking Oscar-winner from Bong Joon Ho, you’re forgetting how unsubtle he is when he goes full sci fi. But leave your expectations at the door and watch this film just go absolutely bonkers.
