Just like Alvin’s 1966 John Deere riding mower, The Straight Story moves slow, has some mechanical issues, but at the end of the day, gets you where you need to go.

The particular highlight for me is the bar scene where Alvin and the other older man recollect the horrors of World War II.

It’s crazy that this is a critically acclaimed movie from a very famous and well-regarded director, set and filmed in my hometown, and I have never heard anyone talk about it.

It’s hard for me to properly put my thoughts and feelings after watching this into words, but I will say that this is maybe the most emotionally affected I’ve ever felt walking out of a movie. I’m very fortunate to have never had to experience anything like this in my lifetime, but what I think this film does better than any other, is that it almost makes you feel like you are there with the people on screen, watching these events play out in person.

It’s truly a crime that this movie still has not been picked up by a U.S. distributer.
