Seven Samurai 1954
Well this absolutely lives up to its reputation. 3+ hours flew by, plus we got an intermission. Philosophical, with a mix of pathos and humour, action, and tension. This has it all and does it ‘magnificently’ (cinefile pun slightly intended)
Ranking the Seven in reverse order:
7. Shichirōji (The Old Friend Guy) - Didn’t see enough of him. Needed to step up to the plate more imo

Flow 2024
With some gorgeous animation and style, engaging camera work that reminded me of an immersive video game, and a great score, this wordless feline adventure is both really enjoyable and somewhat meditative. The animals move both realistically and with real emotion and the world they inhabit feels just the right level of mysterious. The plot is never explained or made clear and yet you don’t care and just enjoy this animated tale of environmentalism, friendship, and survival for what it is.
Lot of love deservedly for the Capybara here on Letterboxd but the secretary birds level of sass was amazing.

I went into this with a lot of excitement but unfortunately much to my (and Toni Collette’s characters’s chagrin), this did not have “The Sauce”.
While there are a few moments of fun and interest, this film isn’t really a Dovskoyesky like “The Double” tale of cloning or duality I thought it was going to be. Dune: Part Two 2024
Villeneuve returns to Arrakis to continue his gorgeous and stunning sci-fi epic. Following on from the world building done in Part 1, Part 2 examines faith, morality, dogma, and destiny all while riding sand worms and shooting down ornithopters.
The visuals and production design, much like in part 1, are wonderful - full of stunning scale, sci-fi weirdness, and majestic beauty. Villeneuve throughout treats the audience with intelligence and there is a general ‘show don’t tell’ attitude to his world…
