While many took issue with the over-sentimental parts of the story, I actually enjoyed them. Dan Romer's beautifully rousing score certainly hightens the drama and heart but in a world completely from a child's point of view, an over-sentimental perspective fits. As children - especially children at play - everything from a single room to an entire adventure is bigger than we remember them to be as adults. On the Rocks 2020
A few sweet and well performed scenes can’t save this meandering story with wooden performances by both Jones and Murray. As father and daughter join forces to determine whether husband is having an affair, the lack of any real emotions leads us to be fairly uninterested or invested in whatever their discovery yields.

The Kite Runner 2007
Having loved the book, I went into the Kite Runner with high expectations but was ultimatly disappointed by this by-the-numbers adaptation. With a 2+ hour running time, the film felt like a rushed sparknotes of the book with no true character or even plot development.

Motherless Brooklyn 2019
Rich and detailed production design, golden cinematography and a dreamy jazz soundtrack transport you back to 1950s New York; a set that ends up being more magnetic then the story taking place there. Director Edward Norton’s gives a strong performance as a private detective with Tourettes trying to solve the mystery of his mentor’s death. His presence as well some well design set pieces is just enough to keep watching through an overlong running time, an uneven and often convoluted storyline and an underdeveloped supporting cast. Ultimatly, like a restaurant with so much potential, you end up staying for the atmosphere Not the food.
