Very charming and cute, often funny and also an affectionate portrait of noisy neighbourhood life.

Mickey 17 2025
Fun, frisky satire. My favourite part was Naomi Ackie as a libidinous badass whose relationship with Mickey is endearingly and mutually caring. My lead favourite part was the Trumpian dictator character, so over the top repulsive and evil that it made him boring.
I wouldn’t send people to watch this, but if it comes up on streaming I’d say give it a crack.

Ferrari 2023
Really weird tone and pacing, and distractingly awful Italian accents. It looks great and the story is interesting on paper, but I think it would need recutting and maybe even overdubbing to make it work. Penelope Cruz was the only performance I rated especially highly. Shailene Woodley direly miscast. Why not try using some actual Italians??

We Live in Time 2024
London Film Festival 2024
This feels like a film that no one should remember in ten years time. Schlocky and sentimental, the plot is patently desperate to wring tears from its audience.
Though Garfield and Pugh are both fine actors, their one dimensional characters didn’t feel real to me, as they lived out their near perfect romance in achingly stylish, spacious homes. The script doesn’t trouble Garfield’s newly divorced Tobias with any hobbies or friends, just a job so nondescript…
