The Banshees of Inisherin 2022
Singular movie about making time for art and making art in time.
The movie becomes almost a mystery about what it's own tone will be. Funny and dark and cruel and sweet all at once. Dark as Guinness but with a light head of foam that makes the intoxicating sadness go down smooth, even once the glass goes from half-full to half-empty.
Besides the compelling flow of the script, it's worth it just for the small island off the coast…

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers 1995
A bad movie maybe, but plenty of things to like.
Not a fan of the mask in this one, though it does feel like an appropriate symbol of just how weird 1995 was for movies.
Hard to convince my 2022 mind to not think Paul Stephen Rudd isn’t playing a bit here, but in a way it’s just as entertaining that he’s not, and he really makes the movie either way. Then unfortunately it is unmade again by the music video quick cuts and the jolt cola guitar solos that basically act as a date watermarked all over the movie.
